SuperPost Sunday – Weekly Roundup #9

christmas truck SuperPost Sunday Weekly Roundup #9

Hello my lovely elves,

Well, I’m back from my vacation and slowly trying to get back into work n’ blogging mode.

The blogging part is obviously more enticing. So, I was thinking it’d be best to leave the “real” work for after the holidays. Gawd, I just love it when I have these brilliant thoughts!

Hmm…I’m not sure that my clients will think like me though. I’m quite confident that they’ll have a thing or two to say about that lol.

As you can imagine, I have loads to catch up on. I’ll probably be eating, breathing, blogging for a while but then again – I usually am. But regardless, cause the price to pay for my little spree of fun and laughs is well worth it!

In case you’re wondering by the way – YES – I had a lovely time freezing my tooshie off. Oh, and I also bought a few of Gini’s favorite thing. What can I say? A girl’s gotta’ walk the talk in commanding stiletto’s, right Gin ;)?

So Christmas is right around the corner, and as usual I haven’t even started shopping for presents yet :(. I know, I know – bad Griddy! But I still have another 5 days damn it!

You know what sucks?

It’s that most places in the world start their Holiday sales before Christmas. But nooo…here they start a few days after. Imagine that!

Seriously, do the stores not have an ounce of holiday compassion? Pfff…Pretty shitty for the customer if you ask me, but I guess frickin’ smart for the retailer.

Anyhoo, enough ranting about things I can’t change and on to better stuff…

In the spirit that is Christmas, I gathered this over sized stocking of delicious goodies for you this week. What’s that you say? Do they kick-ass? Well I’m glad you ask…

Here’s my answer to ya:

HELL YEAH, AND THEN SOME!

Actually, this is the biggest SuperPost Sunday roundup to date! I had to make up for my lack of online activity during my little vacay somehow. Plus scoring a few brownie points with my loyal readers that are just so pretty and handsome and smart never hurts ;).

But first, I’d like to shamelessly promote – I mean share – a couple of my older Christmasy posts which I wrote this time last year when I had about 3 people reading this blog. I’ll be grand enough and admit to knowing these folks. And if they read nittyGriddy it’s because I pretty much harassed them – well that and I promised them my blog (after I explained what the hell a blog was) would be the next best thing since sliced bread.

Okay, so maybe I made them listen while I read the posts out loud to them myself but still hehe!

Alright, don’t yawn cause you think the posts are outdated, cause they’re not! They’re actually pretty entertaining – and by that I mean funny as hell or mouth-dropping! So don’t be a schmuck (pretty please), and take the time to check them out, cause I’d hate to have to trick you by republishing them ;). Pfff…As if I would ever stoop…

So here’s me, marketing me.

  • If you want to pee your pants laughing at some ridiculously funny people and things, then The 12 Comical’s of Christmas should do the trick!
  • If you need a little inspiration for Christmas decoration ideas for your home, then Deck the House with Lights of Folly should blow you away!
  • Ever wonder what other people’s Christmas trees look like? Well, 7 Unusual Christmas Trees will definitely satisfy your curiosity and more!
  • Does Christmas Time in Paris sound like something you’d like to see and hear about? I mean it’s not like it’s the most romantic and beautiful city in the world – right?

Okay, now that you’re wishing you were in Paris, sitting in your psychedelically decorated house, in front of your souped up tree, humming the “12 Days of Christmas”… I strongly suggest that you curl up with your favorite pillow and blankie cause you’ll be here a while. Okay, forget the pillow, I don’t want you falling asleep on me!

And so, as the old saying goes…

“Without further ado and blah blah,” here are this Sunday’s awesome SuperPosts on all things Social Media, Blogging Tips, SEO, Internet Marketing, Traffic Building, Online Money Making Tools and more.

HAPPY HOLIDAY READING nittyGriddy’ers :D!

Social Media

Twitter signed on more than 100 million new users in 2010. As they get acclimated to the information network, significant changes in usage are bound to take place. That’s exactly what social media monitoring company Sysomos found…

A recent post over at Forbes claims Facebook and Twitter are replacing blogging. Written by Jeff Bercovici, it uses statistics from the just-released State of the Blogosphere report by Technorati, one of the leading blog resources on the web…

Candid documents released by Wikileaks on Tuesday have revealed all social media experts to actually be “the exact same individual,” the Guardian reported. “Paul from Miami,” as he is identified in Wikileaks documents, appears to be…

Several months ago, I was first introduced to the unbridled rage that some folks are quick to release on those who unfollow them on twitter. It disgusted me. In my mind, Twitter is a beautiful forum that allows us to quickly and conveniently…

In April of 2009, I was scrolling through Twitter and found an article in USA Today, written by Steve Strauss in his “Ask An Expert” column, and was titled, “Should Entrepreneurs Twitter? Uh, No.” As you can imagine, I clicked on the article…

Don’t you hate it when you send out a tweet, especially a question, and all you hear are crickets? You’re out there sending out original thoughts, trying to get people talking, and what seems to be working is quoting other people…

Blogging Tips

Starting an online business or blog can be a challenging task for sure.  The creation of a website in of itself can be an arduous task;  it took me four months for goodness sakes to get my first online business store up and running…

I’ve written a lot here about how much I work on this blog. If you take a look at my Daily Blogging Diary (see the link in the nav menu?), you’ll see that I usually work on my blog from anywhere between 8 to 13 hours a day, and that’s not including…

This is part 3 in a 12-Part series: Read Part 1 – Strategy. Read Part 2 – Passion. Okay, now let’s really get into it.  You have an idea, product, service, whatever that you’re passionate about and you’ve got a detailed strategy…

A lot of the blogs I read talk about productivity. I appreciate the necessity of a topic like this. We need to be more productive so we can 1) make money faster, 2) see other kinds of goals or results faster, and 3) move on…

I wanted to put this section into the first lesson of the upcoming e-course on finding your blogging direction. However, I thought I’ll share it here since Alexa is often taken for granted but rarely used for what it really is – research and analysis…

I talk to a lot of bloggers. In fact I speak to some blogger somewhere almost every day … supporting, encouraging, listening, and helping where I can. And I think I’ve determined the biggest hurdle that keeps people from ever beginning a blog…

Finding an idea to run with for your new niche site can be a bit tricky especially when you’ve been taught time and time again just to load up a keyword research tool. Well, let’s end this single approach to niche creation right here and now…

When Justin asked me if I wanted to write a guest post for DragonBlogger.com, I was so honored because I don’t get many personal invitations to write guest posts, and DragonBlogger was one of the first blogs I subscribed to and started…

There’s no limit to what you can accomplish with a little persistence (or a lot). I think I my persistence could be confused with OCD. I’m one of those weirdos who just can’t quit. Even when it seems totally stupid to keep going…

SEO

Search engines help people find information outside of their networks, get exposed to new ideas, and answer questions that no one around them can. You might be seeing a lot of benefits from social media, but SEO cannot be overlooked…

Search engine optimization, aka SEO, is going to be a crucial vehicle in how you drive traffic to your site.  Sure, there are other vital sources such as social media, PPC and back-linking strategies; however, this article will solely focus…

Traffic Building

Looking back at the start of my blog this past July, I am completely blown away with how fast it’s grown. Apparently, you are too since the questions of how I did it keep pouring in. I am always happy to oblige my audience…

If you just started a blog, or have a relatively new one still sitting in PageRank zero land then I have some good news for you! But first… “I’ve got this idea for a post, oh how epic an idea it is!  Now what shall the title be? Needs to be catchy…

Internet Marketing

When I first started online, I, like many others, was fed and bought into “you don’t need any money to succeed online” fairy tale. I beg to differ. Can you make some money online without a start-up investment? I think so…

MishMash

Search engines like Google have a problem. They call it “duplicate content”: your content is being shown on multiple pages locations on and off your site and they don’t know which location to show…

There’s a lot of negativity around online influence tools at the minute. Things like Twitter Grader, Klout and similar are coming under fire, with common complaints being how is influence decided, what metrics are used…

With enterprise social software platforms still in their infancy, ROI measurements are just now becoming possible with early adopter communities.  While I don’t expect that we will need to continuously re-justify these tools…

Stepping out of the dust, the Stranger stood menacingly still. At lightening speed, the Bandit raised his rifle and fired—the bullet flying through the air and hitting… Oh drat. I was doing so well until I realized why that story I was writing was so cool…

I am sure most of you have heard of the 80/20 rule in business right? It really works in many ways online, so I thought I would outline some of the ways I have found the 80/20 rule to work for me…

It’s nice to see we have something in common. Gini and I also share clothes frequently. It works since we are both “winters.” We should compare stilettos some time Ingrid. They can be a challenge with the hills here in Tennessee but I’m not letting a few bumps keep me from strutting my stuff.

As I write this, I’m thinking gee mark what an idiot you are. These people don;t know you and now they think you are a cross-dressing hillbilly. That would be inaccurate. I’m not a hillbilly.

    Kidding, kidding, kidding. Really.

I’ve just ruined my reputation as “the blogging Viking.”

OK, I’m off to hunt in the woods for our holiday feast of wild boar and berries. Drop in any time. The mead is especially good this year.

Oh yes, your round-up was very good. Thanks for including me. I hope this comment does not exclude from future editions : )

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Mark – I just love this comment ;)! You rocked it Mr. Schaefer!

You had me LOLing a few times. Brought this whole new side to you that I hadn’t yet discovered ;). That’s why I love comments – you learn so much more about people.

I really hope Gini gets a hold of this reply. I’m sure she might have a few things to say lol.

As for comparing pumps – anytime my friend! You should see the hills we have here. I’ve almost mastered the art of strutting on the most vicious of roads. It’s quite mountainous here – the road to my house is almost 90 degrees steep (upwards). Not that I’ve ever trying walking it haha.

No worries – I won’t spread the word that you’re a cross-dressing hillbilly. Your “blogging viking” reputation will remain intact and we’ll just presume that you like trying new things hehe.

And me too…Kidding, kidding, kidding :)!

This awesome comment will definitely not affect your future appearances here – quite the contrary my friend! I may stalk your blog now to make sure I have a post of yours to add here regularly just so I can discover new and INTERESTING things about ya. But then again – finding a worthy post won’t be much of a challenge as I’ve become quite the fan of your work! Seriously – you’ve got some excellent posts!

I’m glad you liked this roundup. Hope you get the chance to check out a few of the ones I mentioned – much like yours – they kick-ass and are loaded with insightful info.

I’m glad Gini and I found another stilletto lovin’ partner ;).

Thanks again for stopping by here and sharing your 2 cents – actually more like a buck and a half of goodies!

Hope you and your family have an amazing Christmas and Holiday Season.

Cheers and keep strutting your stuff!

  • http://www.newbizblogger.com Michele Welch

    Hey Ingrid,

Thanks for the link luv my darling. 😉 It’s going to be a CRAZY week so not sure I will get around to all of these, but def will be checking out a few. ‘How to make people give a dam about your business’ sounds interesting. Although I think they should of named it ‘How to make people give a shit’…LOL

Great to hear you had a good time on vaca…always great to get away for a bit. Now back to work! 😉

Have a fantastic Christmas! I have be requesting something of you in the new year…so hope you are ready for me. :-) xoxo

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hi Michele,
You’re most welcome my dear :). Keep posting those awesome articles and you’ll keep seeing them here!

I can only imagine how hectic of a week you have in front of you with the holidays and all – I think that’s everyone’s case right now lol.

I really like your title better haha “How to Make People Give a Shit” – Hell, I would click on that!

And yes – a vacation always does the mind and body tons of good :).

Request away Michele – I would be happy to oblige with whatever you have to ask of me. I’m ready – at least I hope haha.

Wishing you and your family a beautiful Christmas. Hope 2011 brings you great things, especially love, health, happiness and success.

      All the best

  • http://www.larissaphotography.com/blog TJ McDowell

Just visited the blogging bookshelf blog for the first time. Interesting post about how to organize your blogging priorities.
Ingrid, you’d know better than I would – is it pretty typical for bloggers to work long hours? With our photography business my wife and I work somewhere around 60 hours (guessing) per week each. Is it pretty close to the same for bloggers?

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hi TJ,

Nice to see you here again :).

Tristan (Blogging Bookshelf) is a fantastic blogger and always manages to come up with creative and useful posts. I’m glad you discovered him and his blog through this roundup :).

Unfortunately, I can only speak for myself in answering your question about how many hours bloggers work.

In my case, I spend a hell of a lot of time. Not simply writing, but reading other’s people’s work, commenting and taking in whatever I can. So yes, I’m pretty close to the number of hours you and your wife spend with your photography business. In a way it’s great cause I absolutely love all things blogging but in another way, it’s taken a lot of time away from my “real” work – the kind that pays lol.

I know many bloggers that spend just as much time as you and I. But I suppose it depends on whether a blogger blogs full time or part time. If it’s their primary source of income (and only “job”) or not. If they update daily, weekly, or whenever else. If they spend time reading and researching or not…A lot of factors obviously come into play and I think each blogger is different. But this would be a great question to ask. Hopefully some of the commentators here can answer you as well.

I’m sorry that I could not give you more specifics than that. But again – I definitely put in the double digit hours and more – depends on the week and the amount of other work that I have as well :)!

Thanks again for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Appreciated.

      Have a Merry Christmas

      Cheers

      Hi Eric,

      You’re most welcome.

It’s an excellent and very refreshing piece with tons of good take-aways. I especially like how you’ve broken down the steps with simple and clear instructions. Also – very original and practical to have rated the difficulty and priority levels of each. Nicely done!

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by here – thank you. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you around these parts more often.

      Cheers

  • http://spinsucks.com Gini Dietrich

A few?! A FEW???? Where are my photos?? What size shoe do you wear? I may have to do something about this.

And, I’m with Are. I LOVE your round-ups!

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Gini, Gin, Gin :)

A few means would mean definitely more than 2 – cause 2 would just be a couple or a pair and a pair would mean 1. Yeah, I’m so sorry about that little stream of consciousness there – it’s late, my jokes are bad. I have no other excuse lol.

You want photos of the shoes alone? Or of someone (hmm…) posing in every pair? Ha!
Shoe size is 38 and a half – European size of course cause in American it would mean Elephantitis Feet lol.

I love that you love these roundups – I’ll make sure to keep them coming every Sunday. Didn’t forget about the GP for ya – I’m oozing back into work mode so will try and crank one soooon :).

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season. Wishing you all the best and more – always.

      Cheers

I enjoy your style and touch. .. “A girl’s gotta’ walk the talk in commanding stiletto’s”.. Can’t beat this..

    I might rethink my 2011 strategy now .. 😉

Thanks for sharing your NittyGriddy thoughts with us.

      Hi Are,

It’s great to see you here :). Thanks for that awesome comment.

I’m glad I’m able to light up your day a bit with these SuperPosts. Some really good articles this week. A lot, I know, but hey, they’re all well worth it and deserve to be read and spread.

It means a lot that you like the style – thank you :)! Now that I’m reading that phrase again here I’m thinking I should have it coined and painted on t-shirts haha.

Good luck with the strategy. But I must warn you – they’re not God’s gift to comfort lol ;).

Happy Holidays to you and your family Are – and a Merry Christmas.

      Cheers

Glad to have you and your kind words back here :). Thank you.

    Hi Ingrid,

    Thanks for including me!

I would say, “welcome back,” but not sure you want to be back, so not sure my “welcome” is welcome 😉

This is a mighty fine Roundup, little filly. I’ll stick around for the rodeo & BBQ!

    Rick

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Rick,

Of course your post was gonna’ be included – I loved it :). I think I kinda made that clear in the novel I left you in that section they call comments haha.

In all honesty – it’s great to be back – but of course, I wouldn’t have said no to taking a few more days. But that would just lead to more postponing and more catching up to do, so…

I hope you find some articles that will interest you in this roundup – quite a few to choose from and if I may say so myself – they all rock and kick some serious bloggin ass ;)!

I’ll make sure to put out some chips and salsa next time to go with the BBQ :).

Merry Christmas to you and your family Rick. Hope it’s a lovely one.
      Cheers

All I can say is women look attractive in stilettos but how you gals walk in them is beyond me. I would of thought the first thing the Feminist movement would of done is tossed the heels for more comfortable shoes. I mean seriously…Right to Vote, Equal Property Rights, Equal Pay, Sexual Harassment in the Work Place. You would of thought ‘Comfortable Shoes’ would of taken priority! But I am very glad they did not!

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hahaha. Howie you kill me!

It’s great to see you around these parts :).

Believe me when I tell ya that I don’t have the faintest idea how we (or at least I) manage to walk in them for so long! I’d love to lie and tell you that they’re God’s gift to comfort but even I couldn’t keep a straight face with that one.

The good thing is – I’m not much of a feminist. I’m all for equal rights but there are just a couple things I don’t want to be equal in lol.

My dear Howie – sometimes to look good you must be willing to sacrifice a little comfort ;). That goes for you men too!

But I will totally back you up and say that I too am glad the feminist movement didn’t touch my heels to replace them with mandatory Burks and Scholls – as comfy as they may be hehe.

Thanks for stopping by Mr. Sky Pulse Media. Much appreciated your awesome comment!

A very Merry Christmas to you and your family.

      Cheers

      • http://www.skypulsemedia.com/ Howie at Sky Pulse Media

I have been meaning to come here ever since Gini gave you the #FF. Funny thing is as a joke I set up my very first Google Alerts for Gini and Shelly Kramer. Though now I have a few more. So Gini’s today sent me here! And from your post here I was able to comment on a Danny Brown post that was not on his own blog. Kind of like HopScotch!

I agree sometimes sacrifice is needed to look good!

Thanks for the reply! And the Holiday Wishes. Same back to you!

        • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Well I’m glad you hopped over here Howie. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you more often :).

I really need to do that by the way – the Google Alerts. I say I’m going to every time and then…That’s it, I’m making it one of my resolutions! At least that one I’ll be able to keep lol.

Well all 3 of those fine folks you mentioned absolutely rock! Needless to say what I think of Gini and Danny as I’m sure you already know!

Enjoy your game of HopScotch – hope it leads you to some interesting places and people along the way.

          Thanks for the wishes.

          Ciao

It is nice to go away for a bit and come back, isn’t it?

Thanks for this list. I’ve been using these (I used Gera’s last week) to catch up on my reading, since I don’t have time to do it during the week, really, unless I have a list. lol So, new bloggers beware – get on a list! :)

I second Tony in thanking you for listing the top 10 post.

    Cheers!

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Tia,

It certainly does the body and morale some good to take time off! I couldn’t agree more,

I really liked your GP on Tony’s blog – very insightful and some great things to think about for next year. I’m hoping to at least accomplish a few of them.

But then again Tia, I very much enjoy reading – and learn a lot from all of your posts!

I’m glad you liked this list. And Gera does indeed collect a nice roundup of posts every week. I hope you will find this one (and every other Sunday’s) useful to you.

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by. I appreciate it.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
      All the best
      Cheers

      Hi Tony,

      You’re most welcome Mr. Top 10 :).

I very much enjoy reading your blog and Tia’s post was a great eye-opener as she suggests some fantastic ideas to consider for this new year. She’s just a wonderful resource in general and a good person to learn from.

I will most definitely be sending you a guest post at some point soon. I’m excited that you’d like to have me on your site. Forgive my slowness lately but as you know I was away on holiday – so now trying to catch up with all the work I missed/neglected :(.

I’m actually working on a few guest posts at the moment – hoping to finish them before the holidays if I can. Will do my best to have something for you soon :). And thanks again for inviting me. I’m the one who is honored.

Always nice to see you around these parts Tony.

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

      Cheers

    Hi Ingrid

See why you’ve been missed. Tthis is even better than your usual epic tome;-) You sure have been busy surfing the net, tweeting and commenting since the hols. Sure you are almost ready for another one….just don’t suggest it to your clients lol

Know a lot of the people you have mentioned but a few I haven’t visited. So when I get back from the Carol service with my friends and their young children this evening; will be back over to scroll through and go visit those I have not met yet.

A couple of the posts you tweeted I have already checked out as you were very effusive about their articles. Wasn’t disappointed either. So added them to my blogs to visit now. You sure do get around the blogosphere at lightening speed Ingrid. Good to have you back….been quiet on Twitter without you :-)

      Patricia ma dear,

I hate to sound repetitive but I do love it when you stop by to leave one of your epic comments :). Thank you kindly!

To tell you honestly, I too missed my fabulous blogosphere lately but I’m back in full force now. Although, yes, another holiday definitely sounds good but I won’t push it haha.

As you can see, I spent the last few days doing some serious reading and catching up and boy was I pleased with all the A+ articles I came across.

Hope you enjoyed the Carol service – it’s such a wonderful time of the year.

I often tweet certain posts that you’ll see on here but I also like to keep a few as a surprise ;). I know you’re quite the reader, tweeter and commentator yourself and therefore have to make sure to find some new goodies for you to enjoy :).

I’m psyched you liked this roundup – it’s the largest selection I’ve done so far. I hope you find some time to read a few of the ones you haven’t already – cause needless to say that they certainly kick-ass!

As usual – thank you for coming by here and for being the lovely person that you are. Always a pleasure talking to you Lavender Queen!

Wishing you and your family (and your lavenders of course) a Merry Christmas. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

      Cheers
