Help Me Name My New Series (Please)!

Wiley Coyote Help Help Me Name My New Series (Please)! So I’m in the process of fulfilling one of my 2011 Social Media and Blogging resolutions and I need your help, errr…advice.

I’m about to start a bi-weekly series (Wednesday’s or Thursday’s) that calls on my readers to share their pennies on a different question that I’ll ask every time.

I’ll give my 2  or 4 cents worth and then throw it back at my readers to discuss – an “Ask the Readers” type of post if you will – similar (concept wise) to the one Corbett Barr does over at Think Traffic or Chris Ducker on Virtual Business Lifestyle.

Now, when I say discuss, I mean for you to explode the comments section! I’m not kidding. I want to be bombarded by intellect and insight, entertainment, fun, savvy-ness, personality…whatever you got, bring it!

I thought this would make for a great experiment. For one, we get to engage and hear different perspectives and two; we get to know each other better and learn from one another other along the way.

Also, feel free to suggest good discussion topics for the next time round. This Q&A is all about YOU, your expertise (whatever they may be) and your experiences. So, I’ll be counting on you to put your smiles and thinking caps on!

But here’s the thing…

Much like my cry for help in naming my SuperPost Sunday’s, I’m gonna need you to vote on a name for this one as well.

Below are a few names I was thinking of, but as usual, I’m indecisive.

What do you think? Which one do you like (or not like) and why?

Oh, and if you think these are all lame or suck and have a better suggestion, I’m all ears – seriously – “Dumbo” ;)!

Your vote and input is really appreciated.

Thank you my lovelies ;).

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Let’s Discuss  survey 300x298 Help Me Name My New Series (Please)!
  2. Bring IT!
  3. Ask the Lovelies
  4. Tête-à-Tête’s
  5. The Nitty-Gritty

“Bring IT!” I love because it is consistent with your style and you have already made it “your own” from a branding perspective. When I see “Bring IT!” I know it’s you – and I’ve only been around for a couple of months! Also, it has a lot of “force” to it – you’re throwing out a challenge! If you’re wanting to go with something else, of the names you’ve suggested, well, I’d stick with Bring IT! anyway …

But, if you’re wanting a different name from that, I like “Grilling Griddy”. It keeps enough of your normal name for branding consistency but is different enough from your other material to set it apart and avoid confusion. More importantly, however, it evokes action from the reader – to actually comment / debate, i.e., to “grill” you, so to speak, on the topics you pose. To grill you implies and, therefore, requires more than a simple passing comment of “oh, good question” (which isn’t really a problem on your blog where people tend to leave nice substantive comments, but anyway …).

“Let’s Discuss” has a call to action but is not quite as forceful. Moreover, it is generic and does not further your branding goals. “Ask the Lovelies” is consistent with the theme of your blog posts but seems to be kinda “weak” in calling on the reader to act – it is not putting the action on the part of the reader, it is you asking. As for the others, I don’t “feel” a call to action when reading them – anyway, just my 2 cents! I hope you’re doing well!

My first inkling is to vote for The Nitty Gritty, though I wonder if that will get confused with your blog title and branding. Perhaps “The Nitty Gritty with NittyGriddy”

Or “Down and Dirty with NittyGriddy” ?

    “Picking Nits with NittyGriddy”

In the spirit of not adding to your confusion (haha) – “The Nitty Gritty” — keeps the theme going : )

This should be an insightful and fun experiment here Ingrid – great idea!

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Haha thank you for being so compassionate Mark ;).
You have no idea how lost I am now, as I actually want to use about 5 names. Oh My!

But, somehow – I will find a way to use them all – if not in the title, then in the post hehe.
      Thanks for your vote. Appreciated.
Hope you’ll come and participate in this series once it starts – hopefully next Wednesday :).

      Cheers

From your suggestions I like “Bring It!” because it is a strong call to action. The “Nitty-Gritty” does play off of your blog but personally I would use that as the tagline, “Down to the nitty gritty”. Below are some other suggestions I’ve come up with; I’m sure you’ll appreciate me adding to your dilemma. Happy Friday! 😉

    Griddy Groupthink
    Griddy Xchange
    Grid XChange

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hi Angie

Oh My – I love the way you think :)!

I like Bring it as well – although I know it’s not the most original idea but it does have a call to action tone – and that’s what I’m after.

Down to the Nitty-Gritty is one that a few people liked but I thought it may be a bit long to use as a title especially since I’m planning to add the topic as a part of it after the series name.

Your suggestions are great. Although I like all 3 – I think I like the Grid XChange best – it has a nice ring to it – plus it’s still part of Griddy – my nickname – and actually a lot of people call me Grid.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your views and your suggestions. Thanks so much.

I may have a final vote (with a poll) so make sure to stop by again. Actually stop by whenever you like lol 😉 – even if it’s everyday – truly I don’t mind at all hahaha.

      Have a great weekend.
      Cheers

      Hey Jimi
Thanks for chippin’ in here. A few people mentioned they liked “the nitty-gritty” as well – I know it’s close to my blog name and is a play on words but still indecisive :(. So I may actually roundup all the fantastic suggestions I’ve gotten here and put them to a final vote.

I’ll be counting on you to stop by here to rock it with me and my awesome readers :))!

      Thanks again

I am thinking Gridiron, but not the football meaning, the original one which is ‘a utensil of parallel metal bars, used to grill meat, fish, etc.’ and you could play on this and call it the

‘Nitty Grid-iron’ – “Where we give free thought a grilling”

    OK that’s TERRIBLE, but I tried :)
had no sleep last night either, and now I am here to copy your header image for the FB post and getting distracted with creative thought that ended up sucking arse!

just stick with Nitty Gritty (with the T’s) because it plays on the blog and nitty gritty is what asking questions is all about getting down to so…..

    I’m going away now

  • http://thefriendlyblogger.com Lisa

Yippee Ki ay aa?? I totally made that spelling up! I like Nitty Gritty but I also like my creation too….Nitty’s Wittys!!! has the Tzarina weighed in yet?

    Hugs and dances,
    Lisa

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Haha Lisa you crack me up!
Nitty’s Witty’s you say huh? Damn – all these good ideas have got me even more confused now Grrrr….

I think I’m gonna’ have to roundup all the super suggestions made here in the comments and put them to a final vote – cause I’m even more lost now than I was then lol.

But what I do want is the title to be a call to action. I want folks to know to come over and participate, engage, debate, whatever…Plus the actual topic will also be included as part of the title.

Do you like any of my suggestions or do they all suck lol?
      Bring IT? yes, no? Whatever?
Thanks again my friendly blogger pal :).
      Cheers

  • http://twitter.com/janetcallaway Janet Callaway

WOW! What fun names. While there is certain value to the consistency of The Nitty-Gritty, it is not a call to action. Gabbing with Gritty is a start in the right direction, however, I suspect that it “softer” than you want this series to be. Since you do such great rants, how about Rant at Griddy’s or The Rant at Griddy’s or Get Real: Rant at Griddy’s? So many choices; good luck. Aloha. Janet

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Janet,
Thanks so much for your input. Sorry for the late reply – I’ve been a bit overwhelmed lately and running around the blogosphere :).

A few people have mentioned they like “the nitty-gritty” but you’re right in that – alone – it’s not a call to action. Maybe “get down with the nitty-gritty”? But that’s a bit long for a title – especially since the actual topic will also be included in there.

Oddly enough – The Technorati post was my first rant lol. I’m sarcastic in general on here 😉 but I’ve never dedicated an entire post to do what I did there. But I’m thinking I should more often haha. But never about an individual of course.

Thanks for the ideas – as I was saying earlier – now I’m even more lost than I first started. I’ve gotten some great responses from you all and now have a bigger list to choose from. I may have to put them all to a vote.

Thanks for stopping by here. Nice to have you and hope you’ll be back to participate for the “series” :).

      Cheers and Aloha to ya

  • http://www.lisabmarshall.com Wpunchak

I like a few of the suggestions in the comment section. Particularly, ‘Off the Griddy’. And just to add more options to your dilemma, I also thought of “Gabbing with Griddy”. :)

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Hey Whitney (I’m presuming that’s you)

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your creative 2 cents!

A couple people have mentioned they liked “Off the Griddy or Off the Grid” :). But I really like your idea – Gabbing with Griddy :)). I hadn’t thought of that word at all.

Yikes – with all these great suggestions from folks I may just have to do another roundup post and just have a vote. Cause now I think I’m even more confused than before haha.

Do you like any of the ones I suggested or NOT really?

Let’s Hash It Out on the Griddy-Iron (instead of Gridiron)
    Your Turn to Be NittyGriddy
    Come Get Nitty With Griddy

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hola Jamey :)

Well I think I’m even more confused now than I was when I first started this poll hehe. You guys have come up with some super suggestions and I’m not sure I’m gonna’ be able to decide now! Grrr….

Come get nitty with Griddy – sounds fun as hell – but I’m sensing it could also sound a bit kinky haha – something I definitely don’t want to imply in any way. You know what I mean?

I really like the play on the words with Gridiron – Let’s hash it out on the Griddy-iron

I want my title to be a call to action – I want people to know to come over and participate/engage – although the question may also be a part of the title. I want them to feel like it’s a discussion and that they will be heard and that they can learn from others as well.

Do you like any of the ones I suggested? Or no?

Thanks for these kick-ass ideas Jimbo (Oooo first time I use that I think lol).
      Ciao

      • http://www.lifeasanexperiment.com James D. Burrell II

Only you could take the most bare bones comment and reply with a novella. It’s a skill and don’t you ever forget that. You’ve got talent kid, talent I say.

From your post — I liked “Ask the Lovelies”

From the comments — I liked Erika’s Off the Grid, Gettin’ Griddy With It, Cocktail Hour With Griddy (or maybe Happy Hour)

I know you want the title to speak to new readers to let them know their opinion is encouraged and that returning readers will already know what to do, but I think you have a great group of followers, and if you go with a catchy ‘play’ on NittyGriddy, many of your followers will help spread the word A) because we adore you and naturally want to help and B) because the title of the weekly post will be fun to say… I mean tweet.

You come across as incredibly genuine and unique, so don’t go with something bland like”Let’s Discuss”, this post deserves better.

Just as you want nittyGriddy to be synonymous with blogging one day, allow yourself to strive to have the title of this post series that is completely unique and can become synonymous with ‘reader response post’ or whatever the technical name is for something like this.

I ramble, but truthfully, my goal was to outlast you in length of comment. I’ve poured blood, sweat, and tears into this reply, and I still feel I’m going to come out with the short end of the stick. But the point is that I tried. So thus it is to you Ms. Griddypants (no idea what that means), go bold, go fun, hit this title out of the park. And Happy Wednesday!!

        Hasta,
        Jimbo

        • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Hahaha! Jamey, I so wanna’ reply to this novel – I mean trilogy – with a simple “hey, great input, thanks”.

Wouldn’t that be funny and totally unexpected on my part? But alas…as you can already see, I’m not able to lol.

Seriously though, thanks for all the amazing things that you said here. I love hearing them 😉 and as you know, I am extremely appreciative and flattered.

I think you make a good point about “let’s discuss” – although it’s exactly what the series will be (at least I hope), I think it may be a bit bland. Bummer cause at least it was short and simple.

What about Bring IT? I know it’s been heard and maybe a bit of a cliche – but it does portray what the series will be. Bring your pennies, bring your personality, bring whatever the heck else you want but be here! For some reason I like that. Although I would have loved to have the words Grid or Griddy included somewhere.

I also really like your Happy Hour as an alternative to cocktail.
There’s so much more I want to say and good things too – about each point you made – but I’m gonna’ stop here (I’ll open a new comment if I have to) cause Griddypants really wants you to come out with the long end of the stick this time ;).

Here goes nothing. Griddy – out!

          • http://www.lifeasanexperiment.com James D. Burrell II

I really wish we were communicating with walky-talkies right now. I liked Bring It. Maybe have a catchy tagline (a sentence or 2 that describes the series after the headline/title) but Bring It is short enough to include on Tweet and allow for reader commentary. You certainly want to allow for reader commentary on them thar tweets (Them thar — a southern colloquialism for “those”). Some folks I know really enjoy crafting up witty little lead-ins/teasers for your posts.

Whatever you decide to go with will be a success. It’s the content that will be the life force of the series that will grow its readership and engagement level not the name. Was it the functionality of the slinky or the name that made it such a successful toy? Although, the “slinky” song did sort of have a catchy tune.

-Jimbo over and out (spoken/written in my best military/walky-talky voice)

        • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Alright, I counted lines and you’re 21 beats my 17 LOL. You win!
So my “thank you so much Jamey for your wise words of advice and my Cheers” are going here Hehe.

Oh, and before you say anything – this isn’t cheating!

  • http://www.sweetsfoods.com/ Gera @ SweetsFoods

    Hi Ingrid,

No doubt about it your “own brand” that can be recognized out of your blog: The Nitty-Gritty :)

    Have a great week :)

    Gera

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Gera
      How are ya?

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your 2 cents – appreciated!
A couple people have pointed that out already about “my brand” and having The Nitty-Gritty (with 2 T’s instead of 2 D’s like in my name).

Will have some serious thinking to do with all these great suggestions from everyone.
Thanks again and Happy Wednesday to ya.

      Cheers

  • Anonymous

Since I’m new to your blog in general, I’d be confused by NittyGriddy, since that’s your blog name already…just sayin’. However, I do like to keep the brand consistent. So, in keeping with that:
The Grid Lot (it’s your sand lot so to speak, make your own rules, ask and answer, play, etc).
    Off the Grid
Gettin’ Griddy (‘with it’ – could be added for flair)

That was fun! Thanks for my mid-afternoon play on words!

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Erica – thankU and welcome :)

I think you may have a point with nittyGriddy – although I had intended to use nitty-gritty (with 2 t’s instead of the D’s) but I think you’ve just shown me something very helpful – and that is that people may not catch on the T’s and if they do – it may get confusing. I don’t want them wondering whether it’s suppose to be a T or a D. I know those that know me – know that – but those that don’t might not. Thank you for leading me to see that.

However – it was a good play on words and I did like it – but…
Either way – will have to see what everyone thinks.

I like The Grid Lot – a lot ;)! My main objective is for the title to be a call to action. I want people to know through the title (even thought the question will be a part of it as well) to come over and answer a question, to engage, to participate, to see what others are doing and saying.

Gettin’ Griddy hahaha – although I like it – and now you’ve got me singing in my head “get jiggy with it” for some reason – it may sound like a call to come get me or NO? lol Maybe I’m just thinking that alone – not sure.

You and Howie had similar thoughts with Off the Grid – so I’ll keep them in mind for sure.
Do you like any of the ones I suggested or not really?

I’m glad you stopped by here today to share your thoughts and that I added to your daily afternoon of fun :). And thanks again for your input. It’s very much appreciated.

Hope to see you around these parts more often :).
      Cheers

  • http://live-your-love.com/ Brankica U

Love the Coyote, one of my favorites. I like your last suggestion cause it is “branded”

    Here is my suggestion:
    Bring the coins

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Brankica,

I love Wiley Coyete too – he’s soo cute and I always feel bad that he gets the short end of the stick haha. Plus, his confused look here is close to how I feel in trying to find a name for this new series of mine hehe.

The last suggestion is actually spelled with 2 T’s instead of the D’s in Griddy – I just figured they were close plus it means something – good play on words – and a reminder of my own blog name.

But not so sure yet. I like that “Bring the Coins” is a call to action. It’s what I’m looking for here – I want people to come over and discuss and see what others are doing and sharing. Definitely an idea. Thanks for the input :). Hopefully, if I don’t get more confused and lost after all the awesome suggestions LOL – I’ll have a name picked out and ready for you guys.

      Cheers

  • http://twitter.com/sydcon_mktg Jennifer Devitt

Hmmm, how about “Penny for your Thoughts”…since you will be offering your 2 or 4 cents? Or “Cocktails with Griddy”….kind of like a giant cocktail party where we all share ideas, have fun & great conversation?

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Jennifer

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts. It’s funny cause in my original list of 10 or so (before I narrowed down to these) I had “Penny for your thoughts” in there too :). It’s exactly what I’m looking for from my readers but I was worried the name would already been taken by someone or that it may be too long for the title – since I will be including the question in there as well.

However – I may reconsider it – thanks to you :).
I like the “cocktails with griddy” – i wanted to find something where i could use my nickname (griddy or grid) or maybe the “nitty” part. Howie below – also suggested cocktail party – looks like the “cocktail” work may be something to consider big time! I hadn’t thought of that – thanks again :)! I had thought of putting the word bar in there but then….

Really appreciate your ideas. I can’t wait to see what people come up with and like. I just hope I won’t be even more confused with all the good suggestions haha!

      Have a great evening

I like the cocktail idea – Jennifer (up above) also suggested something similar to that.
Not sure about true grid but i like these ideas – maybe i can mix and match!

Social rave isn’t bad at all either.
      The Grid vine?

I just want to make sure it’s a call to action – I want people to know to come over and share their thoughts with others as well and not just me.

I appreciate these a lot Chief Alien.
      Gracias big time :)

      Hey Kiesha
      Thanks for stopping by :).

Do you prefer Nitty Gritty (with T’s) or as in my blog nittyGriddy (with D’s)?
