Alphabet Fun iPad App for Kids

If you’re George W. Bush or the parent of a pre-school child, then the newly updated (V.2) Alphabet Fun iPad app by John Cotant is an absolute must! Learning the A-B-C’s and 1-2-3’s was never this much fun or easy.

Filled with over 70 full-color images and extra large, easy-to-read texts that even your 99 year old nana can read, Alphabet Fun provides an ideal platform for pre-schoolers. The fantastic letter-learning application is aimed at helping young children learn numbers, colors, animals and the alphabet in a way you wish you could have at your age (if you’re old enough to read this post then I’m referring to you :D).

You can scroll through each image with the swipe of a finger while listening to an audio pronunciation and explore how each character is written by simply tracing over it. Pretty nifty educational tool eh?! Your kids think it’s a game and you think it’s educational. It’s pretty much a win win for everyone!

Although I’d love to tell you that it’s free, it’s not. But it might just as well be, cause I sincerely doubt that the $2.99 you’ll spend on it will severely affect your finances. Plus, look on the bright side, your child will learn the basics of reading and writing – which is more than I can say for…forget it, way too easy! Oh, what the heck, I’ll say it…if Alphabet Fun existed when Georgy was in office, then he may have been able to complete an entire sentence without a blooper and a 100 page book of laugh out loud Bushisms wouldn’t have been published :).

You can download or learn more about this fantastically fun educational app here. Or you can also watch this quick demo on how to use Alphabet Fun.

Promenade Up the Nile

WARNING!!! THIS POST HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SOCIAL MEDIA, iPAD APPS, INFOGRAPHICS OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU’RE USED TO READING HERE! BUT IT’S NICE, SO SUCK IT UP AND READ IT ANYWAYS…PLEASE :D!

Once in a while, I like to reminisce and go through some old files on my PC. Yes, you read right…I said PC!  I think I’m still one of the few PC people out there, even after all the valid Mac arguments I’ve heard. What can I say? Right clicking is an integral part of my life. Though I hear you can do that now on a Mac! Alright, maybe my next laptop then.  Okay, waaay off track here…back to the point…Tonight, I was browsing through the “College Files” folder and reading some stories from an old creative writing class when I came across this particular piece. Of course, there are tons of others, and much better written than this one – that’s for sure, but maybe less appropriate, too personal or too “college paper like” for nittyGriddy.

Now even though this one is a little about me – with a few embellishments here and there, I still thought I would share it here (for some odd reason or other). It’s about an old life, a long time ago, when I lived in Cairo, Egypt. This was written over a decade ago for a class assignment at Boston University. I wish I could remember what the exact assignment was, but for the life of me I can’t. Maybe you can tell me after reading it. All I can tell you is that it’s a creative short story where we obviously had to describe something and that it was for Mrs. Peknik’s class.  Reading it again tonight made me feel like I was back in that moment and life almost 20 years ago. I said ALMOST! Ouch, I never thought I’d get older and be able to say that. The ALMOST 20 years ago part (it’s actually more like 18). Still in denial of being 30 something young!

I decided to keep it as is, and not fix up the grammar in any way. I was pretty nocturnal in college as well as the queen of procrastination – which means, this was probably written at 5 am! So please forgive the few mistakes or typos that you may come across – no worries, they’re minor! Hope you enjoy it and please feel free to comment :).

felucca nile Promenade Up the Nile

Promenade Up the Nile

The sails were almost twenty feet high.  Brown from the dirt and torn from their ancient presence.  Held up by wood instead of metal, they still worked.  It’s been almost nine years since my last cruise up the Nile River, but my memory remains as clear as if it were yesterday.  I was only sixteen and I was dissatisfied, uncooperative, and misunderstood.  I escaped to places I thought I’d find whatever it was I was searching for.

The felucca in Egypt is equivalent to the gondola in Venice.  Maybe not as attractive and romantic but just as efficient and agreeable.  To foreigners felucca’s were museum quality items.  To us locals, they were part of Cairo.  It is still a mystery to me how some of them didn’t sink, for they were built from old wood, where the cracks and molds were visible even at night.  The sails could have dated as far back as the discovery of the papyrus plant but miraculously managed to accurately sway with the gentle moonlight breeze.  There were no chairs or tables, only extended pieces of wood with old rags and carpets to sit on.  It was only the larger ones that had cheap plastic fold-up tables in the center.  As primitive looking as the captain maneuvering them, they deceived you into thinking that you had temporarily regressed to the Neolithic period.  But as the city lights gleamed at night, seeing a felucca sailing left you mesmerized.  It was nature in full force: beautiful, simple, and urban – allowing you to take nature and your surroundings for granted.

The color of the water was between a dark green and a brown depending on the day and the distance from the riverbank, looking almost thick enough to carry but dirty enough not to.  Splashes of water during the promenade were usually avoided but after a few too many alcoholic beverages, they didn’t seem to bother us as much. To the peasants who lived along the river, the Nile was their swimming pool, their sink, and their bathtub.  They used it to bathe as well as to wash their clothes.  Rumors of the famous Bulharisia worm were the last of their concerns and the first of ours.  This inch long worm that lives in the shallow parts of the river is said to get into your skin and attack your intestines.  It is the local and miniature version of Jaws.

Regardless of what direction you turned towards, you would see small white, stone houses every few feet, inhabited by families of ten or so.  If the kids could see that you were a foreigner, which was usually very obvious from either our lighter skin tones or form of dress, they would often run alongside the felucca as it passed by.  Dressed in traditional long white robes known as Galabiyas, or simply in old underwear, their filthy little bodies had a way of making them look endearing.  They waved at you as they yelled out random words that most of us couldn’t understand.  I was amazed, for they seemed to be able to say hello in every language.

The stroll up that river was my getaway, but to others it was one big party.  Many of the foreign students from the many international high schools had turned the feluccas  into replacement frat houses and clubs.  They would rent them for the evening as they danced and drank themselves into oblivion.  Alone, I would take only a notebook and escape into a world of free association.  I felt inspired to write and my stream of consciousness dominated.  For those few hours my troubles would disappear and everything around me was peaceful.  I would stare at the peasants crouched low enough that the back of their robes rested in the water as they scrubbed their clothes on a wooden washboard.  The expressions on their faces as they saw you pass by were worth all the money they didn’t have.  They were poor but rich with life.  During that time I  appreciated everything about my privileged life.  I was part of a postcard that portrayed the reflection and shadow of the moon onto the water.  The sight of it left you speechless and in awe.

Once I reached that stage of harmony, I forgot about the pollution around me and the unsanitary smell of sewage that engulfed my nostrils.  I entered a dream world and became concentrated solely on the imaginary clear sky and the aroma that now smelled like freshly picked gardenias.  Often I imagined that I was Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot in “Murder on the Nile” or even Cleopatra as she was being escorted by her slaves to see Caesar.  Most times I was me- lying in a bed of flowers as my charming and incredibly handsome lover serenaded me.  My imagination always amazed me and left me thinking about the few too many movies I had seen.    Regardless of who I pretended to be, it was my fairy tale and I was invincible.  It was as beautiful as I wanted it to be and as inspiring as I made it.  Most people go on an escapade to India to find themselves.  I walked down the street to what had become my backyard lake, and embarked on a two-hour long journey of self-discovery.

As I sit here enclosed in this four-walled room, I watch the thick smoke from my cigarette rise towards the ceiling as I ponder these treasured memories that to this day leave me breathless.  They make me think of the many places I have been and how today more than ever, I appreciate the little simple things in life that we tend to take for granted.

Kevin Rose Digg’s it!

Every Social Media success story starts somewhere! From Google to Facebook, Twitter to Foursquare, Digg to Reddit… They all began at the bottom with what was simply an idea – and an ingenious one at that!

Digg is no different.

Kevin Rose, founder and CEO of Digg, is another of the many successful college dropouts that we so often hear of.  He started Digg with a mere $6,000 that he had initially saved up for a deposit on a house for him and his girlfriend. As a result of this savvy investment, his relationship came to an end. But on the bright side, the world’s favorite social news site was born! It kind of makes you wonder if his girlfriend has any regrets now!

Check out the infographic below designed by Ellie Koning from OnlineSchools.org which covers interesting facts and milestones of Digg’s history.

But before you do, here are a few more Hall of Fame dropouts which are sure to inspire you.

Henry Ford (Ford Motor Company), Steve Jobs (Apple), Bill Gates (Microsoft), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Jerry Yang (Yahoo), Michael Dell (Dell), Richard Branson (Virgin) …are but a few of a very long list of brilliant young entrepreneurs and achievers who cashed in by turning in their books to turn on their brains!

Google’s 10 Year Shopping Spree!

I’ve decided to zap that infamous post where one apologizes and tries to explain with some lame ass excuse why they’ve been absent from their blog the last couple of months. Why? Because:

1).  If I were to tell you that I’ve been super busy and overwhelmed with work, it would be hard for you to believe; after all, everyone can spare those measly few hours a week to devote themselves to something they love. And I do love writing in nittyGriddy :)!

2).  If I were to tell you that I’ve been travelling and on vacation, you’d either want to kill me for taking a 3 months long leave of absence to tan in the sizzling Mediterranean sun or wonder who the hell takes 3 months off from work?!

And 3). If I were to tell you that an important family matter came up that I had to take care of, you’d wonder what it was and if everything was okay; so if you are wondering now, “yes, everything is just fine, thank you!”

So, I figured I would just skip that whole “I’m sorry for not updating in a while” thing (for whatever valid reason I may have) and presume that YOU (my awesome readers and supporters) will just give me the benefit of the doubt and forgive me all the same :)!

First off and on a personal note – today, August 27th,  is my very young Mom’s Bday! A big shout out to you Mommy Dearest. Thank you for being an incredible mother and friend. You are the person that I aspire to become one day. I love you and I wish you all the best that this life and world have to offer!

With that said and out of the way, I’m back and I want to share this pretty cool infographic with you today!

This fantastic data-driven infographic by Jess Bachman (from Scores.org) is entitled “Google’s Acquisition Appetite”.  It visually depicts Google’s vigorous acquisitions and investments over the last 10 years. As you can see, there aren’t many months were Google wasn’t buying something or other! Since the image is self-explanatory, there isn’t much else to say except for “Bon Appetit Google!”

Waze: A Social Mobile App with Real-Time Traffic Updates

I recently came across this fantastic little application which is sure to give TomTom and others a good run for their money!

Waze is a free social mobile application that provides real-time maps and turn-by-turn navigation based on the current conditions of the road. It enables drivers to build and use live maps and traffic updates. Since it’s 100% powered by people drivers, the more users there are in your area, the more information you’ll get.  As to what it does…simple: Waze utilizes information from people that are already on the road in order to help you reach your destination the quickest way possible.

Waze is compatible with a number of mobile devices and operating systems, such as:

  • iPhone (OS 3.0 or higher)
  • Any Android based phone
  • Windows Mobile (OS 6.0, 6.1, or 6.5)
  • Symbian

However, in order for the application to work properly, you must have an internal GPS antenna as well as an active data connection (plan). You can follow Waze’s blog to learn about the latest iPhone version and other updates, or you can visit their FAQ section for more general information and technical support. In the meantime, I suggest you go ahead and watch the super useful video guide provided below to see what this whole new “Waze craze” is all about!

Twitter “No-No’s”: To Tweet & Not to Tweet!

HEAD’S UP: This is a long post! So if you’re not in the mood for reading pretty cool advice regarding Twitter and my experience with it so far, then you may want to stop reading after this sentence. Still here? I’m gonna’ go with YES! Now, if you’re curious and have some time to spare, then go ahead and continue cause you never know – you may actually like or agree with what I have to share.

twitter birds on branch Twitter No Nos: To Tweet & Not to Tweet!

In all honesty, when I first joined Twitter, I had it set up so that it would simply be a way for my blog posts to automatically be sent to my feed. I didn’t really get what was so interesting about all these ‘tweople’ chatting away and sharing random stuff – at least, that’s how I first saw it. But in the last few weeks, I’ve learned otherwise. I have spent more time on the awesome micro-blogging giant and have realized that it’s so much more than shameless self-promotion. I’ve come to understand the actual purpose of Twitter and what it can do when used properly.

Twitter and me…

I’ve become a much more active Twitterer now – in the sense that I now Tweet, Retweet, use Hashtags (#), DM, @reply, #FF… I even have some Saved Searches and have been added to several interesting lists by fellow Tweeters. I’ve seen the positive effect it has had on the level of interactivity from peers, the quality of followers that I’ve gained (& aspire to continue gaining) and the traffic on my blog.  In doing so, I’ve come across and interacted with some fantastic Social Media experts, enthusiasts, fans, gurus… which I now follow (who also sometimes follow me).

Call me a newbie or old fashioned, but I actually take the time to read every post I Retweet. Yes, it’s time consuming, but I’m curious and interested in accumulating as much knowledge as I can – plus, I believe that’s the way it should be when it comes to retweeting a post – unless if it’s just a simple message without any links. After all, I want to know what message it is I’m helping to spread!

I’ve also noticed that people can be responsive to your actions and appreciative of your support in spreading their word. It’s sometimes even an incentive for them to reciprocate the gesture. And of course, I’ve learned and enjoy to do just that. When someone takes the time to Retweet one of my Tweets, I @mention them to say thank you. And I usually try doing so the same day if possible – actually within a couple hours – because let’s face it, with the amount of Tweets that are posted, they can eventually forget what Tweet you’re referring to.

I also reply to non-automated, personalized (or what seem to be) DM’s. If someone has taken the time to contact me about something, then I think it’s only polite to do the same and reply. Yesterday, while visiting a well known and reputed blog (not to name names but a pretty big Social Media one), I came across a typo they had made in writing the name of another hugely famous site. Luckily for me, that person is following me back so I was able to send them a DM notifying them of the error in an appropriate and friendly manner. They nicely replied thanking me for bringing it to their attention and immediately fixed it. This may sound like a silly little story but it did initiate some kind of personal interaction and it proved to me that Twitter ‘hotshots’ (and I mean that in a good way) will also take the time to reply.

Follow me, I follow you?

I don’t automatically follow people who follow me and I don’t have automated DM or Tweeting services. I personally write everything and try personalizing each message while I’m at it. I have learned that people are more responsive when they know a private message is directed at them and not at a gazillion other people as well. It might just be that it’s still easy for me to do that since I don’t have a million followers and I don’t follow a million people. Actually, I have no intention of accumulating that many Twitterers on my follow list [although I’m sure it can be a nice ego boost to see a number like that following you :)]. I truly believe that it’s not about the quantity but about the quality of followers you have. Therefore, for every person that follows me, I actually open their profile and their site if they have one and see what they’re about and what they’re Tweeting [which means – it’s generally nice for me to see some kind of information in the profile]. I also try to find and read an interesting post of theirs that I can in turn share with my own list (an ongoing process that I choose to engage in).

I don’t mean to sound arrogant or as the “All Mighty Twitterer Scanner” in any way; quite the contrary. I’m looking to learn and interact in a friendly and professional way with real and like-minded individuals. I want to find people that share similar Social Media (and other) interests and that have insightful experiences and comments to share; those that have been in their respective field a while, those that are active, those that are willing to communicate with both the “somebody’s” and the “nobody’s” of the Twittersphere. Believe it or not, this is coming from someone who’s not a big fan of interacting online with people she doesn’t know. For Pete’s sake [old school expression, I know :)], I don’t even accept or reply to private messages from people I don’t know on my personal Facebook account. Actually, until my nittyGriddy “Like” page, I had never written or replied to someone on a public wall!

Wait…I’m getting to the point!

I initially meant for my opening paragraph to be no more than a few lines, but as usual, I got a bit carried away and therefore went back and included my little HEAD’S UP note:-). Please understand that by no means do I claim to be a Social Media expert – or any other expert for that matter. I’m just an enthusiast with a passion for writing and learning. Being an expert would mean I have nothing more to learn, and that is surely not the case – for anyone! I love to take in new things and the fact that I do, is what enabled me to write this somewhat useful post.

What I mean to share or identify in this loooong article, are the things people should refrain from Tweeting – or more precisely the things they shouldn’t share and that I will most likely zap when reading my Twitt feed. Common sense tells me what to tweet and not to tweet, so I won’t get into the “Do-Do’s” of Twitter, since I’ve pretty much just told you in the last few paragraphs.

Again, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and free to tweet away what they want. So this may just be a personal venting space or it could turn out to have some pretty useful general tips. Either way, I’ve come to realize that after reading a few similar “What Not to Tweet” type posts, that I’m not too far off from what Social Media especially Twitter connoisseur’s, also suggest not to do.

On that note…

Here’s my list of Twitter “No-No’s”!

Note: I’ve decided to spare you and keep these nice and short and straight to the point. Because if you’ve gotten this far, then I think you’ve had your dosage of nittyGriddy reading for the day :).

Twitter Donts Twitter No Nos: To Tweet & Not to Tweet!

1. Don’t OVERTWEET by telling us your every move:

Scenario 1:

@nobody: On my way to the kitchen to eat dinner!

@nobody: Eating dinner and enjoying yummy home cooked fries!

@nobody: Wow! Ate way too much, need to digest. Gonna’ go watch some TV!

Scenerio 2:

@nobody: On my way to the store to buy groceries.

@nobody: Just bought the juiciest looking strawberries. Can’t wait to bla bla bla…

@nobody: OMG! I just bumped into Betsy at the store. Haven’t seen her in years. Hi @Betsy!

Personally, I’m not interested in when and what you eat and what you bought. I’m happy for you that you’re eating and shopping for food, but really…do I/we care? But, please do give my best to Betsy :)!

2. Don’t OVERSHARE:

@nobody: My boyfriend and I just broke up. I can’t believe he cheated on me!

@nobody: I’m really sick and have been throwing up all morning!

@nobody: My dog just took the biggest $!@% on the neighbor’s lawn!

Now how much of those things do I really want to know? My advice is call a friend and tell them all about it. Or better yet, post a status on Facebook since that’s what a lot of people seem to be doing and see how many reactions you get (sarcasm alert!).

3. Don’t have PERSONAL Conversations:

@nobody: Hey, @nobody2 – you there?

@nobody2: @nobody: Yes, hi, what’s up?

@nobody: @nobody2: Not much. What you up to? Did you go to work today?

@nobody2: @nobody: Yeah I did. OMG, have to tell you something really funny. Check your DM!

Ok guys, you seem to know each other and share certain things. Which would mean you either have each other’s phone numbers or are on BBM. Please use either or. Having a full length back and forth personal conversation on Twitter is probably not the best place. It may seem like an instant messaging service but it’s not. But then again, what do I know?

4. Don’t try & TREND what’s not Trend-a-ble:

@nobody: I just ate the best pasta on the planet. #mashable

Regardless of how good that pasta is, I sincerely doubt that it has anything to do with Pete Cashmore’s Social Media Guide. And trying to pass on your tweet as if it does, is really not cool and a misrepresentation. I don’t know how happy #mashable fans that are following Trending Topics will be to see your tweets.

5. Don’t AUTOTWEET or automatically DM new followers:

If you need to set up an automated tweet to send out a few messages while you are otherwise engaged, then it’s fine. But don’t automate your entire feed to your account.  People will take notice. Also, don’t automatically DM your new followers with a standard message. It’s seen as spam and I for one, am much less likely to reply. If I’m not mistaken, the whole point of Twitter is to be more personally involved and engaging. Wanting to promote your brand, product, site, whatever…is fine, but do so in a less blatant way so it doesn’t scream shameless promotion.

6. Don’t WAIT days before @replying to someone:

If you’ve been carrying a conversation of @replies, don’t wait a day or two between messages. The probability is that by then, they will have forgotten what you were talking about. Most people (including me) will expect a reply within a couple hours max. I know this sounds a bit demanding and can be difficult at times, but do try to abide by this “unwritten” rule. Also, don’t forget to use the appropriate Twitter terminologies (@, #, RT, etc.) so that they can receive and/or go back to find your messages.

7. Don’t use long ongoing MULTI-TWEETS:

@nobody: I was watching this movie the other day and it hit me that I had completely forgotten to go check the fridge to see if I still had enough butter to make…

@nobody: …my delicious chocolate cake for this awesome party that I’m having at my place tomorrow night…

I think the 140 character rule is there for a reason. I know it can be annoying sometimes to fit everything in and I admit to using shorthand once in a while (although it’s also not usually recommended as it can be confusing) but try your best to remain within that 140 limit. If you absolutely must then use an extra message. So far, I’ve been able to adjust to that – and as you can see from the amount of writing on this post – it can pose a challenge at times :)!

I’m sure there are quite a few more Twitter Don’ts but for now these should suffice.

Phew… that’s it folks! I can now leave you with this awesome comic from the talented Matthew Inman from The Oatmeal for a much funnier representation of “Ten Things You Need to Stop Tweeting About”.

SeededBuzz: A Place to Promote Your Blog!

seededbuzz logo SeededBuzz: A Place to Promote Your Blog!

In general, there are 2 big questions that bloggers ask themselves.

  1. How can I promote my blog?
  2. How can I monetize my blog?

And though the two are closely linked and often dependent on each other, there are many ways to do both.

There are a plethora of sites out there to help people promote their blogs. Many of you may have heard of ones like BlogEngage, Entrecard or Adgitize; not to mention the big players like Technorati, Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon…although the concept is rather different.

Well, now we can add another blog promotion site to the list. A few days ago, I came across SeededBuzz.com; a site whose mission is to help bloggers promote themselves. It’s a global online community of bloggers that write good content and that want their work to be read by a wider audience – in turn growing their network, blog traffic and popularity on the net.

As explained in the About Us section of their site, “SeededBuzz is a community of bloggers where members with similar interests and goals are connected with each other, content ideas shared and relationships formed. The benefit of these friendships and cooperation is increased backlinks, subscribers, followers and revenue.” And as the name itself suggests, there are two parts or actions involved: the Seed and the related Buzz.

Seededbuzz home page SeededBuzz: A Place to Promote Your Blog!

The concept is this:

Bloggers can promote their post by what are referred to as Seeds; summaries of a blog post that have been written about a topic that other bloggers may like and in turn pick up and mention in a blog post of their own. The basic idea is that once they are inspired and eventually write a similar post, they then insert a link back to the original post. And the blogger that has written about the Seed can submit their post on the same page as the Seed that inspired them, under what is referred to as a Buzz.

I know it can sound a bit confusing at first, bu the concept is actually really simple. You plant a Seed; others see it; if they are inspired by it, they write something relating to it; they then link back to your post, and Buzz it!

The result: the more Seeds and Buzz, the more traffic and links to your site. Needless to say what great PR this is for bloggers. Simply put, good bloggers can create one heck of a Buzz for themselves and others.

According to a recent interview with The Blog Herald, Matt Roberts, founder of SeededBuzz.com, stated that his “motivation and inspiration for SeededBuzz was simply the realization that starting and growing a blog is not easy and most fail. SeededBuzz was created in response to this and is designed to make it much easier for bloggers to promote themselves by helping them to replicate the strategies and thought processes of really successful blogs.”

Although anyone can become a member of the SeededBuzz community, there is an application process. All blogs will be reviewed before being accepted. This is done in order to ensure and maintain real, high quality content that will inspire others to write. Membership is subscription  based, but is as low as $4.95 a month. “The Social Media Guru”: A F!@%# Awesome Animation!

I was directed to this hysterical video about Social Media by a fellow Twitterer. It was animated using Xtranormal.com; a website dedicated to helping anyone make a movie through text-to-speech – a revolutionary approach where you type something (the script) and it’s turned into a movie.

The Social Media guy in the movie is “an amalgam of a hundred different half-assed guru-wannabes” that Freelance Journalist Markham Nolan, has encountered online and in real life. Nolan originally created this film to pitch to Ireland’s Small Firms Association (SFA) but instead decided to release it for free on YouTube. Since its YouTube debut about 6 months ago, “The Social Media Guru” has been viewed over 157,000 times.

Get ready to hear a few laugh out loud lines like:

“We are so dumb that we don’t realize that using social media is as easy as pissing on a rock…”

“I’m a fucking awesome social media guru…”

“I’ll hook your Twitter to your Facebook and plug your blog feed into my reader. Then only if you’re good, I will ask my friends to follow you…”

“Have you even read my online internet blog? It’s mega awesome.”

Name that Volcano!

I presume that by now, the entire world has heard of the famous volcano in Iceland that erupted leaving numerous European airports closed and stranding people for days on end. But besides watching the news and waiting for the volcanic ash to pass, I don’t see much else we can do. Except maybe try and learn how to pronounce its name – Eyjafjallajokull. As you can imagine, its posed quite the challenge so far!

The video below, although useful, is quite funny. At the very beginning, it demonstrates the proper spelling and pronunciation of the word Eyjafjallajokull – which till now I haven’t been able to repeat correctly – but then again, I don’t have to :)! Reporters however, do…or at least they can try. Listen to these news anchors from some of the world’s major news stations attempt to pronounce the word as they cover the event.

The Ugly Truths & Numbers Behind Infidelity

A little over a month ago, I published an article called, “The Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Men”. It pertained to infidelity and the little tips (or particular traits that women possess) that often lead us to discover when we are being cheated on. Although it was written in a rather humorous way, it did have a lot of truth to it. I also chose not to get into all the nitty-gritty details about why men and women cheat, but I did however mention a few reasons which are consistent with the ones showcased in the infographic below [see reasons here]. And though there are many reasons for why people cheat, some even more valid or understandable (acceptable) than others, the circumstances unfortunately, will always be the same.

Infidelity is quite common – anywhere and everywhere! Actually, that’s the understatement of the year. Infidelity is so common that it’s almost become a norm in some parts of the world.

I live in a small country and an even smaller city, where most people know each other. I’m sure you could think how great it must be to live in a “Cheers-like” environment. Sure, it has its perks, but it also has its downfalls.

You see – when most people hear of a couple where one partner has been unfaithful, their usual response is one of shock or dismay – something like, “Oh no, how terrible! Are you sure it’s true?” But in my surroundings, the reactions are more like – “Sh**, you’re kidding, with who?” It’s not that we don’t question whether the “rumor” is true or not – of course we do – and we often automatically defend and deny, especially when we know who the alleged cheater is. But, it’s just that we’ve heard this story so many times with so many couples, that we suppose or assume that there must be some truth to it. After all, the temptation is always there, but somehow, giving in to it, seems to reign these days!

Please don’t get me wrong, for I don’t mean to generalize and take for granted or belittle the severity of the act – quite the contrary! But the probability is that we know or have heard of the “other” person; we might have even hung out with that “other” person or maybe share mutual friends. It’s a small circle – and people that stray tend to do so within or not to far from its’ area.

For these reasons and more, I can honestly say that I am no longer surprised or dumbstruck when I hear of another couple’s infidelities. Yes, I will always be shocked and find it sad, but though I hate to say it…being unfaithful here is almost like a trend – a very sorry and ugly one at that!

Without further ado, or any more of my personal views or ranting on the issue, I present you with this mouth-dropping yet realistic infographic that I got via onlineschools.org.
