Smartphone Faceoff – Nexus One vs. IPhone

Google’s new HTC-made, android-based, Nexus One, has created quite a stir in the mobile world. but most of all it’s given the almighty iphone a run for its’ money! In the ongoing debate of which smartphone is better, cooler, faster…

Here are 6 features that the Google phone has which the iPhone doesn’t.

  1. It’s Unlocked – instead of going through wireless carriers, users can purchase the phone directly from google and can use it with any provider they want.
  2. It’s Cheaper – with a contract, the Nexus One is around $179 whereas the iPhone is $199. When factoring in the cost of a plan over 2 years (the usual length of a service contract from a carrier), the Google phone will cost you about $600 less per year.
  3. Extra Battery Life – not only does the google phone have a longer battery life (7 hours talk time as opposed to 5 for iphone) but it is equipped with a replaceable battery.
  4. Higher Quality Camera – Nexus One has a 5 megapixel camera with a flash compared to iPhone’s 3 megapixels.
  5. Open App Store – although the iPhone apps outnumber the Android apps (about 6 to 1), the Android’s market open platform means no application approvals – unlike iPhone apps.
  6. dictation – if you don’t feel like typing while using your Google phone, you can dictate your sms, emails, notes and more – with about 90% accuracy.

Infographic Resume’s

Many, if not most of you, know what it’s like to send your resume (CV) to hundreds of international HR departments in hopes that someone will actually get to yours and take the time to look at it. After all, you spent quite a bit of hours fixing and spicing it up with those little harmless white lies here and there ;)! Of course I graduated with high honors, speak Dutch and Swahili, play the tuba and violin and excel in powerpoint! But please don’t ask me to put my money where my mouth is words are!

In general, resume’s pretty much look the same – minus the information. There’s a few professional formats for you to choose from and that’s about it. Well, here’s a new way to designing your resume; a way that will surely get you some extra attention – and maybe even put you at the top of the ‘I need a job’ pile. Below are 2 examples of infographic resume’s. They’re definitely the most original I’ve seen. Heck, I’d hire ’em!

want to watch movies for free? well, now you can with speedcine.com; a dedicated search engine for finding legal feature-length movies on the web. the ‘moviepedia-like’ site tells its’ users where and how they are available – free or fee. speedcine currently carries about 23,000 films in its database (from old classics to year old releases), with 80,000 links to different websites. moreover, they index 25 websites such as itunes, hulu, netflix and crackle – offering users a choice of options quickly and easily. find out what movies are available in your country by visiting their site.

Samsung’s Transparent Laptop Unveiled

electronic giant, samsung, revealed the prototype for its’ 14 inch transparent oled laptop at the 2010 consumer electronics show (ces). the screen casing is made out of plastic and when the device is off, the panel is up to 40% transparent – as opposed to the industry average of below 25%. details are pretty scarce at this time, but you can see the world’s first and largest transparent laptop on youtube.

the ‘space hotel’, otherwise known as the galactic suite space resort, is due to launch (in every sense of the word) in 2012. space hotel 300x183 Galactic Suite Space Resortbarcelona based architect, xavier claramunt from equip xcl architects – a former aerospace engineer, is the brain behind this surreal, multi-billion dollar project that has been in place since 2007 for their client, galactic suite limited. so if you think you may be interested, i suggest you get ready to cough up the 3 million euros (4.48 million usd) that it’s gonna’ cost you for the 3 day-stay! believe it or not, at least 43  people have already reserved and another 200 or so have expressed interest.

the almighty thrills and chills of life!

two emirati men, nasr al niyadi and his trainer omar al hegelan, have set the new world record after parachuting from dubai’s 828 meter burj khalifa tower (the world’s tallest man made structure), a couple days after the building’s inauguration. the duo fell 672 meters at a speed of 220 km per hour in under 1 1/2 minutes.

personally, i would have chosen the elevator; but that’s just me! 😉

And lo and behold – I found one – and no where else – other then at onlineeducation.net.

I suppose the site’s slogan says it all – “the stuff they don’t teach you in college” ;).

i’m quite sure that the title alone has captured your attention and has made you wonder what the heck this post is about ;)! well, let me tell you that it’s definitely something i never thought i would read about, or even more – write about! but i came across this article on www.telegraph.co.uk, and although it’s dated january of last year – this ‘old news’ is still worth sharing today – believe me! larry flynt A Porn Bailout?!

porn lord and founder of hustler magazine, larry flynt, asked washington for a $5 billion bailout in order to rejuvenate the porn industry which apparently suffered a big ‘blow’ due to the economic downturn. wait – there’s more! it seems that he, along with fellow adult mogul and creator of the girls gone wild video series, joe francis, teamed up and approached congress with the same request or financial assistance that was given to car manufacturers, banks and insurance companies! ‘rejuvenating the sexual appetite of america’ was their plea for help!

“in difficult economic times, americans turn to entertainment for relief. more and more, the kind of entertainment they turn to is adult entertainment.”

What Color is Your Bra?

there’s a new facebook and bbm (blackberry messenger) craze that’s been going around for a few days now – bra color status updates. except, no one really knows why and how the ‘what color is your bra?’ meme started. in case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s what’s been going around both facebook and bbm and i’m sure some other social networking sites.

“we are playing a swedish game…some of you might find it silly but it’s gonna be fun simple smile What Color is Your Bra? write the color of the bra you are wearing on your status – just the color and nothing else! send this to all your female friends…no men! would be fun to see how it spreads…and all the men will wonder why all the girls have a color in their status. lol have fun”.

as a response, women (and oddly enough, some men) have been posting single word updates with the color of their bra – hence the white, black, red, hot pink, none… updates that you’ve been reading everywhere – needless to say that beige and off-white were not the top posts – seeing their lack of sex appeal.

after a quick google search to try and get to the bottom of where or how this trend started – i came across a few news reports and blogs, such as the belly beyond and newsweek.com blogs, which suggest it could have something to do with breast cancer awareness.

i, as well as other inquiring minds, have yet to find out the true source of this trend and what it really means. only speculations thus far. therefore, if you have any information whatsoever – by all means, post your comments.

Picturing the Past 10 Years

as you can see, i have come to favor these rather entertaining infographics. i find that they get the message across in an efficient and forceful manner – one that is also visually appealing to the reader. in general, i try to post things that i would want to see or know about – things that are easy to read and understand – for the most part. and as we know, pictures are worth a thousand words. on that note, here’s a chart by phillip neimeyer from the nytimes website, entitled ‘picturing the past 10 years’. phillip does a brilliant job picturing the last decade using icons and original pictures – a different one for each of the 12 categories.
