SuperPost Sunday – Weekly Roundup #34

heat cartoon SuperPost Sunday Weekly Roundup #34Hello My Lovelies,

Before I begin my weekly musings, I’d like to apologize to everyone who is still waiting on a reply from me on my last two Bring IT! posts – 17 Things About You and What Attracts You to a Blog?

I’ve been a bit slower than usual lately but I am going through them one by one. I would have replied to many of you sooner but it seems my clones or mini Gridzilla’s (as Stuart likes to call them lol) have taken their summer vacation early this year.

Speaking of summer…is anyone else being peer pressured by the sizzling sun?

You know…the kind where you wake up in the morning on the weekend and the sun is there staring at you – telling you to ignore all the work you need to do, all the reading you’re behind on, all the tweeting and sharing you so enjoy. Instead, it’s telling you to lay on a mattress at the beach sipping Margarita’s and wine while you glaze out at the ocean and forget your worries if just for a moment.

Anyone?

Okay…so maybe it’s Corona’s instead of Margarita’s and the Mediterranean Sea instead of the Pacific – but still!

Oddly enough, I’ve been spending a lot less time doing what I love most these last couple of weeks. By that, I mean writing and blogging. I didn’t mean for it to happen, but the summer weather has a way of persuading you to spend more time outdoors, and it’s kinda what I’ve been doing on the weekends.

Come to think about it, I should really go back to hibernating behind the computer cause for one – I really miss the hours I usually put in and the many interesting conversations I have and two – I’m looking pretty black already lol.

You see, I’m one of those lucky people who doesn’t turn red like a tomato in the sun. I get dark rather quickly and it’s pretty cool because my teeth seem so much whiter :D. It’s like I’ve swallowed a hanger lately – I’m just flaunting those damn things as much as I can. But it’s a great feeling isn’t it?

Come on ladies – you know what I mean.

You look at yourself in the mirror and you smile. It doesn’t matter that you’ve got raccoon eyes because you forgot to take your sunglasses off (nothing a little makeup can’t fix lol) or that you’ve been eating like a whale for the last few months and gained 10 extra pounds. Everyone knows you look thinner tanned.

You might be annoyed because you’re sucking in your frickin’ tummy to button your jeans that all of a sudden look like they’ve been sewed on to your skin, but it’s all good – cause once they’re on (after the 20 crouches and stretching exercises) and you’re desperately gasping for air, you think to yourself…”Daaamn I look fine. Who’s gonna carry me anyways?”.

Of course – it’s an entirely different feeling when you’re back in that bathing suit on the weekend and you realize that swallowing your stomach won’t help you much when you’re walking over to the pool to take a refreshing dip ;).

I’m presuming that some of you can relate to all this. As to the skinny bitches (no offense) who can’t, I say to you…grab a couple burgers and a shake and make me a feel a little better about myself will ya lol?

Don’t mind me. I’m just envious of those size 4’s. I didn’t say 0 – I love food way too much to even bother aiming for that.

All jokes aside – what truly matters is how you feel and that you love yourself the way you are – small, medium or large!

Alright, I’ve treaded enough on Oprah’s favorite topic for the last 20 years!

It’s time for the Goodies

Admittedly, I didn’t have much of a chance to read blogs this past week. Sure, I’d steal away a few moments from being 1 of 16 on my family vacation, but between my uncle responsibilities for a 3 mo, 3 year, 4 year, and 8 year old (somehow the parents seemed to always be scarce), I didn’t get much time in front of the computer.

I certainly recognize that luring call from the sunny beaches, as I, too, have found them irresistible lately. Meh… enjoy them now while you can because before we know it, winter will have its miserable clutches on us… leaving us fireside with artificial daylight (read: lights on at 5pm) hammering out hours on end on our blog and others because no one in their right mind would dare venture outside.

So, beach it up. Bronze it up. Make no apologies, and by all means, enjoy yourself, Ms. Pants. Now… I’m off to peruse these surely wonderful posts above.

  • http://www.TrafficGenerationCafe.com/ Ana | Traffic Generation Cafe

Great roundup as always. Enjoy your cocktails on the beach while you can!

  • http://twitter.com/NancyD68 Nancy Davis

Tan? What is that exactly? That must be that state other people get to that I bypass. If I dare set foot into the sun with less than #50 sunscreen, I wind up with the sunburn from Hell. (well, not that Hell exists, but you know…)

Movies – last movie I saw was “Black Swan” which was really cool. It was the first time I had been to see something grown up in a VERY long time. I only see kids movies in theaters anymore (or so it seems)

Ah, now to the blogs. It looks like I have a lot of reading to do. :) This is always a good thing.

My bosses want me to write content that makes the company “sound smart” this idea scares me. We should BE SMART – not SOUND SMART!

Maybe it really is just me. Maybe I should go get a tan. I look thinner when I wear heels. I may be pale, but if me heels are tall enough, I look 10 pounds thinner. Does that mean if I get a tan and wear heels I will look 20 pounds lighter? My birthday is coming soon, you know :) A girl has to look good for that.

    • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

Sounding or being smart? Love this Nancy. You just gave me a post idea, or maybe your boss did. I don’t know, perhaps both of you.
      In any case, thank you.

      • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

Isn’t it funny?!! Something that sounds smart?! LOL

I just love how we give each other ideas. Like I always say – the gold is in the comments!!!!

      • http://twitter.com/NancyD68 Nancy Davis

        John,

God forbid we be smart. We need to “sound smart” I was told I need to use bigger words in my webpages and blog posts. I write too simply for them. So, if that thinking is correct, they must think Seth Godin is an absolute moron. Just a guess.

Off to find a thesaurus. I need to sound smart. :)

        • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

Funny Nancy who are your customers PhD students? I don’t see the value in adding bigger words..oh yes sound smart :)
But it does bring a great point, sound smart vs. being smart…how much should we dumb it down?
@thesaleslion:twitter wrote a great post recently and it’s so true.

ASk your boss does he want to speak to his clients or his colleagues?

          • http://twitter.com/NancyD68 Nancy Davis

John, I have been trying for months now. They just don’t listen to me. They think “well our customers are smart” and they may very well be, however, this does not mean we do not want to speak clearly. I loved @thesaleslion:disqus s blog post about that very thing.

My bosses want to be Harvard Business Review. I told them that spot was taken, and we should try being ourselves. I prefer to read blogs that are easy to read, and that share basic common sense. Call me stupid or simple if you like, but I think my approach is better. :)

            • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

Yes to reading blogs which are easy to read. I hear you I guess we all try to be our ‘heroes’ and your boss has the HBR as his/hers.
Your approach rocks but in the end I guess your three different bosses will have to see the light when nobody is interested by their version of HBR.

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      LOL Nancy! :)
I have to admit that I’m pretty lucky when it comes to tanning – not that I don’t get scorched myself the first time round – but after that – we go blackish hehe.

Oddly enough I still haven’t seen Black Swan – I have it but I just haven’t been in the right mindset to sit and watch – although I did hear it was very good!

Your bosses SOUND like the interesting bunch haha. Seriously? They want your to write stuff that sounds smart? Hmmm….do big words that nobody will understand count? 😉

Oh yeah – heels and a tan – it’s like putting Cindy Crawford to shame hahaha. I’m kidding – but I always like to think that both of those things do the trick sometimes – but then again – there’s only so much I can dupe folks lol.

When is your bday? Doing anything special – besides looking utterly fabulous of course :)?

      Talk you soon.
Enjoy your day my dear. Let me know how that combination works out for ya :).

      Ciao

      • http://twitter.com/NancyD68 Nancy Davis

My birthday is August 11. I will be expecting party hats and cake. :) Last year, my brother forgot my birthday. My son told me last year “Mommy you got nothing for your birthday.” Thanks Douglas. He then told me I was 58 years from being 100. (why not just rub salt on my wounds little boy)

Hahahahahaha – ah, my birthday. I will be 43 and fabulous! I can’t lie about my age because my son rats me out! (the bastard!)

Cindy Crawford look out indeed! I bet. :) Be good hanging out in that sun my dear.

Thanks for including me in your weekly roundup!  Lots of great articles here!  :)

My pleasure Kristi :). It was a heck of a review/guide – so thorough and helpful. Thanks for sharing it.
      Have a great week.

As always, so many great picks Ingrid. I’ve read a few of these, been meaning to read others and am trying to contain myself, only click 3-4 this morning and save some more for later. Sigh… wonderful ‘problem to have’ my friend.

I know what you mean about not spending as much time at the computer lately; trying to break out of that one too. My excuse is not pretty sunny weather as the heat is kind of oppressive here in Atlanta and I am ever so grateful for air conditioning; I’m just taking advantage of the daylight and summer as best I can. Even seen 2 movies and am going to consider some books this summer, actually reading. May even try that one pool or beachside somewhere, as I AM the person who turns lobster red in the sun, so it’s SPF x 100 for me and a big hat. FWIW.

    • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

Reading Davina? Now I’m confused…For wine I will

      • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

        LOL!

      • http://www.3hatscommunications.com/blog/ davinabrewer

All different kinds of reading John.. and FWIW, I even read about WINE sometimes. So there. 😉

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hey Empress 😉
Don’t you wish all our problems were as such? haha
I really hope you find some reads in here that are to your liking my dear.

It’s always nice to take a small step back and enjoy the simple pleasures of life and nature. I admit that I’ve been doing a bit of that on the weekends although I always have that guilty feeling that I should be sitting in front of my laptop lol.

I hope you enjoy daylight and summer as best you can – you most certainly deserve some time for yourself.

So what movies did you watch? Anything good? I’m actually a huge movie buff – I can watch one after the other for days on end.

Definitely go for the beach side – it always does the body good – but as you said – go crazy wit the SPF 100 – although they say that anything above 50 is the same – but just to be safe. Oh, and don’t forget the knees – I payed the price for that one last week ;).

      Enjoy the Atlanta sunshine.
      Talk to ya soon

      Ciao

      • http://www.3hatscommunications.com/blog/ davinabrewer

I’ve seen Bridesmaids (LOL) and X-Men (a decent reboot, worth my morning matinee $$). I think I’ve developed some form of neurotic ADHD and I feel guilty when taking too much time for myself. There is always SOMETHING I could be doing to be productive, even if it’s working on the blog or commenting elsewhere. Sitting down and ENJOYING reading a book.. feels like a luxury I can’t afford; I feel slack for not reading biz books, so I’m going to change that this year. I like my TV but it’s almost always ‘watched’ whilst doing several other things. Hmm.. now feeling a bout of laziness coming on, not to mention the acute need of a vacation. :-)

    Hey Griddy,

That was so hilarious about the figures. Ya I do envy those skinny peeps; but most of them I know eat as much twice as me, LOL and I don’t know how they manage to be so skinny.

    Well thanks for the goodies!

    Cheers,
    Jane.

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hiya Jane,
Hope your week is treating you well so far. Glad you liked the little touch of humor in there haha. I was one of those girls who could eat enough for 2 people and not gain a pound but it seems things have changed haha.

Thanks so much for stopping by and your continuous support. It’s always nice to see you here.

      Have a great week ahead.

      Cheers

Great list of posts Ingrid, can always count on you to umm, Bring IT.

I didn’t make the cut this time, but I think I know why.
I am now going to go and get all my old blog posts tanned, clearly there is an issue with how white they are.

discriminatory – just a bit, but that’s cool – if you wanna roll like that then fine, Im going!

I’ll be at the tanning salon.
oh, and I’m totally cancelling my dentist too! (great tips on a whiter smile!!)

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hahahaha!
I definitely missed your comments here Aussie ;).You’re right – I’m shallow – and I based my recommendations on how tanned each post was. What can I say? It’s my blog right? heheDefinitely cancel your dentist – tans are not only good to make teeth seem whiter – but healthier as well – your cavities magically disappear and the root canal you might need will work itself out with the power of the sun!Muwahahaha!
      How was your weekend Alex?
Hope everything is going well with ya.Talk to you soon.

    Hey Ingrid,

Good to see the Beirut summer is enjoyed at it’s best :) Saying that the weather here has also become awesome (finally) and it’s getting harder and harder to stay inside and some work. So I have still not finished your last week Bring it links and my ebook is not moving as fast as it should. Oops did I say ebook.

I ain’t no skinny b but I will go and grab some burgers and Coronas now.

    Have a great week Griddy.

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      Hiya John,
I’m definitely doing what I can to enjoy it – and I gotta tell you – although I am – I’m also feeling quite guilty that I’m spending less time online on the weekends :(. But if I take my PC to the beach with me – my friends might boo me off the sand haha.

I’m happy to hear that the weather has cleared up in the South and that the sun has finally made its way over. I know how tempting it can be to stay indoors :).

eBOOK? Wooohoo!!! Yalla I can’t wait to read it :). It’s gonna rock of course!

You’ll have to tell me more the next time we talk. Hopefully soon.

      Enjoy the week.
      Ciao

      • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

The funny thing with these ebooks is that you know when you start but never when you finish. Stop writing now…ok just one more chapter, but that’s the last one ok?

It’s start to feel like a late night discussion about wine.

        • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

I know exactly what you mean John. I started an eBook in November that was supposed to be all done with 2 weeks later – and although it’s done – I still haven’t published it because I feel there’s a lot more to add to it. Oh well…

Best of luck to you on yours my friend.

          • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

November girl? Ok I am putting down a deadline on mine and a number of pages. I can always write a second one later :)

Seriously finish yours, we want to read it!

            • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

I know – so bad! Actually – come to think of it – it was even in October.
The thing is – mine was a question that I had asked many bloggers to answer – but then I realized that all my good friends today – like you, Mufasa, Mark, Bran and many others weren’t in it and to me it doesn’t really make sense for me to publish an eBook that doesn’t have my favorite peeps in it. So what I’m probably gonna’ do is send you guys the question at some point so that I can have you guys in there well. That’s why I never went ahead and published it.

              • http://www.thesaleslion.com/ Marcus Sheridan,The Sales Lion

For the record, ‘at some point’ in this statement means somewhere between 2011 and 2099 😉

                • http://www.expatlifecoach.com/blog John Falchetto

Some point is a very defined point in time Marcus, that’s what I love about it. :)

  • http://vizsource.info/ Kim Davies

    Hi, Griddy.

For the first time, I am not so late in visiting your blog. I may not have come in first, but at least I’m in third place. :)

You put out an amazing roundup, as always. I have already been to Francisco’s site and gobbled up his post like a puppy hungry for validation. What he wrote spoke to me because I am not that sure yet about the way I am going about with my posts, you know injecting my personality and my own little stories in them. But, after Francisco’s post, I say, to hell with it! I am writing my posts the way I would talk to someone and I couldn’t get more authentic than that. So, I may just be doing the right thing or am I? (sheepishly smiling)

Thanks for these reads, Griddy. Appreciate your effort every time. :)

    • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

      LOL Kim,
You’re so funny! And yes – you’re third this time round :))) and thank you for your awesome enthusiasm. It means a lot to me when people are excited to stop by and share their thoughts on something I’ve written.

Francisco always has some terrific content over at his blog – both by him and his guests.
And YES – write your posts the exact same way you would talk to someone if they were in front of you. That’s what I do! When you do that – you can be nothing else but yourself and there’s no doubt that your personality will shine through as it does so well in all your comments here :).

People want to know that they’re talking to a human – they want to know that they don’t have to read a dissertation. They want to know that the person on the other end is genuine and that they care – that their stories include personal examples and not just thoughtless preachings.

Anyhoo, from what I’ve read of yours so far – I can see that this is not a problem for you whatsoever!

Keep up the great work and thanks again a part of this community. Always a pleasure to see you here my dear.

      Have a good week.

      Cheers

      • http://vizsource.info/ Kim Davies

Thanks for the kind words and the encouragement, Griddy. :) I am honored.

        Enjoy your week!

I meant them and you’re most welcome Kim :).

      Hey Jack,
      How are you?
Hope you had a good weekend.

Enjoy the reads – hope there’s a few in there that are to your liking.

Good to hear. I know we can’t always please everyone but we can certainly try to please some right? 😉

Awesome drawing Griddy! Did you draw that yourself? It’s a better drawing of Britain than I could do, mine just looks like a crippled old man 😉

Thanks for including my post here, and for the little reference at the beginning. I hope those Gridzillas aren’t shirking away from work and sipping Margarita’s by the beach! If so, we need to install some discipline in them – see if you can call Dog The Bounty Hunter and his team to round them up!

Glad the weather’s nice btw, we haven’t had much rain over the past three weeks, so by the law of averages, we have now got horrendous rain which goes on all day. I just think of the sun, and keep my fingers crossed :-)

      Hola Stu,

Actually, I can’t draw to save my life either. We’re talking crappy looking stick figures at most. But this cartoon isn’t mine – the credit is really small inside it but it’s from a site where you can use these types of black and white drawings for free called weblogcartoons.com.

I absolutely loved your post my friend :). You have such a way with words and it’s always a pleasure to visit your blog. As for the mini Gridzilla’s – how could I not mention it? haha

The weather has been great indeed – but then again – it’s summer and we’ve always been blessed with the Mediterranean sun. Sorry to hear about your crappy weather – hope the sun makes it’s way over there soon. I’ll keep them crossed for ya as well :).

Hope your week is treating you well so far.
      Happy Monday
      Talk soon

      Cheers

I just want to tell you that it rained here tonight! IT RAINED STU!
I don’t know what you did my friend but somehow you sent it my way haha.

Anyways – I just had to come back and tell you that :).

            Did I mention that I’m a wizard? 😉

You really pulled a Harry Potter on this one Stu! lol
I know who to come to next time I need a small miracle.
Do you lease or rent out your magic wand? :)

              • Anonymous

I usually charge for the wand, along with a small additional fee to learn how to use it.

I lent it out to one guy once without telling him how to use it, and it was chaos. He somehow made Justin Bieber likeable…
