Al Qaeda Twitter Account: Disturbingly Funny Tweets

So it seems that someone had enough ‘cojones’ to open an @alqaeda Twitter account and actually send out funny or rather disturbing tweets on a regular basis. Actually, the account was opened in 2007 – well before the giant micro-blogging site reached the popularity level that it enjoys today.

Needless to say that it’s obviously NOT Bin Laden himself nor one of his many homies. But the wanna’ be terrorist organization did use the infamous picture of the most wanted bearded man on earth in their profile and the bio is definitely one that would fit a man like Osama – “working to expel the infidels from the lands of the Faithful, unite Muslims and create a new Islamic caliphate.”

Osama - is that really you? Finally! We've turned over every rock looking for you!

And like any other person or company trying to promote itself on Twitter, the account also includes a link to their website.

The person behind the account has undoubtedly proven that they indeed do follow the news. I must admit that some of the tweets are quite witty and humorous with a touch of sarcasm, but then again…maybe in poor taste? I don’t know. I’m actually indecisive here on whether to laugh or not.  I’ve collected a few ridiculous tweets and shared them below. You can see more of them by clicking here.

Feel free to share your thoughts on these. Which tweets do you find funny? Which one’s are disturbing? Do you think this account is in poor taste or is it funny and should just be taken with a grain of salt? Post your comments.

I am with you in that I don’t know how to feel about that. I do think it’s in poor taste, but a lot of underground political commentary is in poor taste. I guess what disturbs me is making light of a rather serious situation in which people are literally dying over every single day. Is humor okay sometimes? Sure – and needed, even. But impersonating Al Queda? Hmm. I think that’s bizarre!

    Just my .02!

      Hey Tia
I appreciate you taking the time to comment here :).

I’m rarely undecided on how I feel about something. But in this case I really am. Like I said, I do think many of the tweets are actually funny, in maybe a disturbing kind of way – but they are! Even more so, by the tone, comments and slight wit, it is very clear that the person pays attention to the news and is rather educated on Al Qaeda, politics and more…

That’s where I’m left a bit confused in the sense that I do recognize that it is in poor taste but as you yourself said a lot of underground political commentary is as such. I think I’ve decided to just take it with a grain of salt. After all, it’s not the first nor the last time that we will encounter these kind of remarks or people.

Personally I would have been way too scared to even think about creating an account like that – I can’t even imagine the train of thought that was going on for someone to say “hey, I’m gonna’ call myself Alqaeda on Twitter and tweet stuff that may anger a sh… load of people, make a bunch of others laugh or wonder and in the process, also inform some people of the kind of world we live in.”

But somehow it seems to be working and they are getting the attention so…

Thanks again for your 2 cents – much appreciated.
Always a pleasure reading your blog.

      Cheers

You can see the political humor in it. He has definitely done his homework. Assuming it is a he.

      Hi Rose.
True to the political humor part – I suppose some people may just have to take it with a grain of salt. Although it could also backfire with others.

I totally agree. I was just saying in my last comment to Jsinkeywest how well informed I thought the person was. Still trying to figure out whether it’s a he or she – but right now for some reason – I’m leaning towards the HE.

      Thanks for stopping by.
      Cheers

That’s a legendary account if they work it right
not that it would have any real value but it’s an opportunity for the owner
who sounds Muclim to conduct their tweets in accordance with PEACE No ?
Provoking people on such sensitive issues can easily backfire
Yes I followed it for a minute like a week and was worried to hit the Follow
    button.
One Good thing about blogging is it unites people across dumb barriers like religion, race, sex etc :)
Peace Keep up the Great Job ?
PS is that white sign up supposed to go away ? or follow us ? LOL
    Thanks

I definitely agree with what you said there. Although, I really can’t say what religion the owner is or whether it’s a he or she (but leaning towards the HE for some reason) but one thing is for sure, they’ve definitely been doing their homework and keeping well informed and up date with relevant news.

I can totally understand both sides – those who will find it rather funny and those that will find it offensive or inappropriate – and there are good reasons to back both those arguments. But I think that by taking such a daring position is what probably got the attention of most.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that account flashed a few big red lights with authorities and…well, you know who else :).

It definitely caught my eye and I found worth writing a small post about.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment :).
      Cheers
